In honor of Pride Month and in celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, the premier indie music licensing platform Bopper will be spotlighting LGBTQ+ artists on its website and newsletter each week during the month of June. The first LGBTQ+ artist featured in this initiative, singer, songwriter and spoken word artist Elina Filice, defies genre and touches hearts with soulful lyrics and expressive melodies.

For Filice, “Music is a powerful tool for the queer community as it is a space for authentic storytelling of the experiences and struggles that are unique to us,” said Filice. “For queer artists like myself, music creates a space to tell stories of resilience, pride, and authenticity, but also to share stories of love, loss, and heartbreak.”

Filice is one of the many artists Bopper has selected to showcase on its platform of pre-cleared tracks, sync-ready and easily accessible by advertisers, brand managers and marketers looking for just the right song. Along with Bopper’s core goal of ensuring artists are justly compensated for their work, the company strongly supports LGBTQ+ causes with this mission statement: “We celebrate the sacrifice, the fight for justice, the fight for acceptance, the fight for equal rights to be seen, valued and heard by the powers that be. We stand with you.”

“There was a time when LGBTQ+ artists were not able to live out loud and be true to themselves when promoting their music,” says Jessica Entner, Head of Brand and Strategy at Bopper. “A lot of artists hid their sexuality or gender identity for decades in order to get recognized for their music in the mainstream. At Bopper, our mission has always been to amplify these valuable voices and present them to brands and advertisers so they can make a more socially conscious effort to include these creators, artists, and musicians as part of their story.”

On top of the collection of artists, Bopper is excited to announce the donation of 1% of all June sales to the Trevor Project in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month (May) and Pride Month (June). “The opportunity to help promote these voices while also helping to raise funds for the Trevor Project helps Bopper be involved in the change we want to see in the world,” Entner adds.

Along with Elina Filice, Bopper will promote several other outspoken LGBTQ+ artists in June, helping to spotlight their music to the Bopper network of brand managers, advertisers, and marketing corporations. As a bridge between independent artists and advertisers, Bopper is in the unique position of giving just compensation to trend-setting artists who typically get thrust aside by music industry representation.

“Bopper has been incredibly supportive,” Filice said, “Not only do they value and promote my music, but they understand what I’m trying to achieve, and recognize the importance of representation in music. Sync is important as it offers a viable revenue stream which allows me and other independent artists to keep making music and furthering our careers.”

Music licensing platform Bopper is announcing its first exclusive release by one of the numerous independent artists it champions. Artist, DJ, and producer Ben Maxwell will offer a new 10-track album 'Broken Love' exclusively on Bopper before its official release in April 2021.

“Artists are increasingly looking to partners who will promote and value their work appropriately,” explains Bopper CEO Gabriel Bouchard. “And we are always striving to help socially responsible brands and their agencies find high-quality independent music that fits their creatives’ briefs while helping independent artists increase their revenues especially now that live performances, their main source of earnings, are not possible . The partnership with Ben came together very organically.”

Though making and producing music may be more accessible in our high tech world, making a living off of them can still be quite difficult. Talented producers like Ben Maxwell are looking for ways to make more than fractions of pennies per stream off their songs, and Bopper is looking for trendy new music to license to advertisers.

Maxwell has made a name for himself as an electronic music producer, boasting nearly 25 million streams of his songs and remixes across SoundCloud, YouTube, and Spotify.  From February to April 2021, his newest original music will only be heard on Bopper’s pre-cleared music platform, a catalogue designed for advertising and marketing agencies to quickly and easily license music for digital and TV ads.

Sync has become an important source of both inspiration and income for Maxwell, and Bopper was an ideal platform to try out a new release strategy. “I don't think anyone else is doing this,” said Maxwell about placing his music exclusively with Bopper. “You won't find my new album on any of these other sync databases. The reason for that is, other databases are just not as artist friendly. Most of the others are huge databases with subscription programs leaving very little money for the artists, but it’s a much more fair process at Bopper, and I want to be part of this family.”

A truly independent artist, Maxwell taught himself the music production ropes. Maxwell has been producing and DJ-ing since his early teen days, honing his talent with multiple instruments. He boasts a notable following of EDM and House music fans, remixing artists like Brittney Spears, Chainsmokers, RYDER, and Diplo, as well as a host of original tracks. Over the last 2 years, he has been working on producing the new album, and it has become, according to Maxwell, “the best representation of my work I have ever done, and really tells the story of who I am as an artist.”

Bopper’s head of music Greg Lozoff has kept tabs on Maxwell since 2018 when he first heard his single, “Right Now.” Lozoff recognized Maxwell’s talent right away and reached out to offer guidance and later friendship as well.

“We’re always on the hunt for new, exciting artists to work with. As the Head of Music, I make sure to set aside a good chunk of time every week to just listen to new music from a variety of different sources. I happened to stumble on one of Ben’s first singles on Soundcloud and I reached out right away to start the conversation about working together. When COVID hit, Ben let me know that he had been working on a new album, and that’s when the idea hit me to offer it as an exclusive to our clients, before it officially drops. Ben loved the idea and the rest is history.”

The album can be heard on the Bopper website

B2B music licensing service, Bopper, continues to drive innovation in the music licensing for advertisers field. Their latest experiment, Bopper Voice Assistant, is already turning heads in the ad world. Bopper’s voice assistant helps to make the identification and selection of pre-cleared tracks even easier for advertisers and brand managers to pair with their video and audio advertising.

“It’s hard to be first at anything, but we’re the first music tool in the B2B space,” said Phil Messier, Co-founder and VP of Product and Partnerships at Bopper. “There are so many tools for consumers, but the business side is still tied to desktops for the most part, and it’s just not a great experience. We are trying to break away from the track list, make it a more convenient experience for advertisers and brand managers using a much more intuitive discovery with A.I. and voice assistants.”

Bopper’s vision for a music licensing app was simplicity and convenience. Though they are not the first to try to tackle quick and convenient music licensing online, they are the first to specifically target advertisers and brand managers. They are also the first music license platform that utilizes a voice assistant.

Unlike Google Nest or Amazon’s Alexa, Bopper’s voice assistant is a hybrid model, meaning the assistant is paired with a visual platform. Bopper’s voice activated robo-assistant was designed using the Google Assistant app, and is still in the developmental stage — but many of Bopper’s early users have found startlingly good results on the first try.

The process is simple — users can simply say something like, “Bopper, I need a spooky, ethereal song for a Halloween ad,” and the voice assistant application will return a limited number of hyper-relevant, high-quality tracks onscreen that are sync ready and pre-cleared. In what used to be a days- or even weeks-long process, with Bopper you can start with “I need a song for an ad” and end up with licensed, downloaded sync in minutes.

Because Bopper had busy advertising and brand consultancies in mind, they made a conscious decision to limit the amount of search returns to only the most highly relevant tracks, so as to not clutter the screen or send the user spiraling through a long track list of potential options.

“We have decades of experience and huge amounts of data on how brand managers search for music and tracks to fit their ad spots,” said Messier.  “We can leverage that data when designing our software, and that guided our design choices within the application.”

New intuitive, A.I.-infused platform helps advertisers find, license, and download high-quality songs in mere minutes instead of weeks

The on-demand music licensing service, Bopper, has been opening the eyes of investors and marketing strategists to the emerging world of high-speed music licensing. With a rotating library of over 8,000 sync-friendly indie tracks of all genres from 600 top artists, copyright holders, and labels on a highly intuitive, advertising focused search engine, Bopper allows for advertisers to not only find but also license the perfect song for an ad — in just minutes.

Having spent decades in the advertising industry, working with every multinational company in every industry in the world (Google, Toyota, Apple, BP, Wal-Mart, CVS), co-founder and VP of Product and Partnerships at Bopper Phil Messier knows that one of the more difficult  time consuming challenges of syncing music is securing the license agreement. During the online ad and content boom of the late 2000s and early 2010s, Messier saw the media landscape moving away from “all custom, all the time” and knew that there must be a more convenient way to source music for advertising.

The idea for Bopper was formed. The company launched in 2013, their value proposition simple but transformative — to become the first and best platform that allows brand content producers to find and license the best indie music in minutes.

Knowing that the right piece of music can make a somewhat good ad into a great ad and that advertisers will pay top dollar for a high-quality, sync-friendly sound, the team at Bopper set about creating a host of new tech that could search easily, price instantly, and license preemptively. The technology is astounding given that the discovery and contract phases of music licensing have traditionally taken days or even weeks of searching music databases and navigating back-and-forth legal hoopla. Instead, Bopper offers a way to identify and lock down high quality tracks in minutes.

Having joined Bopper in 2018 after meeting Messier in Montreal via the La Piscine Deep Dive Accelerator Program, CEO Gabriel Bouchard is also keenly aware of the boon that this technology is for advertising producers in the digital, streaming, radio, and television space.

“Bopper is leveraging both innovative technology and a deep knowledge of the needs of the brand content creators to shorten the process of finding and licensing quality music for the marketing world,” said Gabriel Bouchard, CEO of Bopper. “I’m not talking about stock music catalogs or creative commons sound bites. I am talking about the instant and safe licensing of hot emerging songs at broadcast quality without needing to draft a contract or even talk to the copyright holder.”

Though immediate and quality music licensing is hardly a new concept, the pain-free, on-demand license promise directed at ad creators has not existed before Bopper. Competitors boast of royalty-free music libraries that are simple and easy to use, but the reality is that many of the best tracks on other platforms require custom quotes or even a phone call. On top of that, the quality of a stock library just does not cut it for the creatives that drive regional, national, and international advertising campaigns.

Rather, Bopper provides a beautifully crafted music discovery experience with an A.I.-infused search engine that leverages industry preferences and jargon to speed up the finding of the right track. On top of the modern technology, one of Bopper’s signature features to streamline the process even more  is 100% pre-cleared music — every single track has been licensed from the artist ahead of time, and is downloadable upon purchase. The music library is kept fresh and up to date, with new ad-friendly tracks being culled and added to the library on a weekly basis by a team of highly experienced music curators, who scour SoundCloud, BandCamp, music blogs, and direct submissions daily.

“What differentiates Bopper from the rest of the licensing choices out there is our hyper focus on the advertising industry,” said Phil Messier, co-founder and VP of Product and Partnerships. “We contract songs that we know will fill an advertising purpose, and often it isn’t an artist’s single. We know what kinds of songs brand producers are looking for, and we are bringing the high quality, pre-cleared tracks at the touch of a button.”

Because Bopper’s cutting-edge tech (like algorithm-based pricing models, a hybrid interface, and license builder software) and ad industry know-how draws in brand content producers of every size and budget that allows for each tracks to be priced individually based on the terms and artist’s popularity, they can offer copyright holders and songwriters truly competitive compensation for their work — which in turn grabs the attention of the type of high quality music productions that advertisers want. Their socially responsible approach is fair to artists and to advertisers alike, making its rise and success in the music licensing space virtually inevitable.
